Roller Skating Facts by the RSA

ISC Mount Laurel hopes that you are having a wonderful summer and that you have been able to participate in some of our fantastic summer camp or skate sessions! If you have not been able to stop by lately, please check out our summer schedule/hours to plan your next visit. We also have plenty of spots available to book your next birthday party!

Our 2015 Summer Camp is unfortunately completely full, but be on the look out for our terrific school camps when school is back in session. Also, be sure to sign up for our awesome 2016 Summer Camp next spring when registration opens back up!

One great thing about working in the roller skating industry is all of the FUN it can provide to families, young and old! However, it is not just about the fun; it is also about providing a fun and safe environment to workout in. Yes, WORKOUT! There are a huge variety of benefits roller skating can bring to your body. Although most skate recreationally, roller skating is a sport that can give you a great workout, just like running can (and it’s more fun in our opinion)!

The President’s Council for Physical Fitness and the American Heart Association both recommend roller skating for health and the RSA (The Roller Skating Association) have made an excellent infographic to show some of the health facts for this great sport. Some great points they make about roller skating include the following:

  • Roller skating for just 30 minutes produces a heart rate of at least 148 beats per minute.
  • The average person can burn up to 600 calories with just one hour of vigorous roller skating at 10 miles per hour.
  • Roller skating causes 50% less stress to joints than running.
